Spring Fellows – Weekend Three

Saturday morning, we begin with the essentials of public speaking. Bonnie McAlister is a Leadership and Communications consultant. She is an Executive in Residence and Emerita faculty member at the Elon Law School, and, previously has held positions as Adjunct Trainer for the Center of Creative Leadership, and Adjunct Faculty member at the Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNCG. She will help us identify the critical elements of successful public speaking and communication and some of the most common pitfalls that we must avoid.

One of the key deliverables for you during the course of the semester is the completion of a Campaign Plan. The first part of the Campaign Plan to write a District Analysis for the office you plan to “run for” as part of the program. During the afternoon session, Executive Director Ross Harris will teach you “How to write a District Analysis”. Ross has extensive experience as both a campaign manager and political strategist in partisan, nonpartisan, and referendum campaigns in North Carolina. Her presentation will help you to understand why a District Analysis is important before you plan any campaign activities, including whether or not this is a viable office for you.
