DESCRIPTION:This module is led by Martin Kifer\, Associate Professor and Director of the HPU Survey Research Center.  Polling is both art and science\, Martin will lead us through some of the “science” of polling\, and then through some of the artful and strategic applications to the current political climate.  There are many pitfalls in a complex campaign environment. Too much or too little reliance on polling represent additional pitfalls.  The understanding of polling—even if only a basic understanding will make you a better-informed consumer and an informed participant in your own campaign strategy and planning processes. \nReservations must be made in advance for the Polling Module  – All attendees must be registered and submitted to HPU Security prior to the module in order to gain access to campus. DESCRIPTION:In the fall of 2016\, IOPL hosted our first Hometown Debate series with televised debates in Wilson (Lt. Governor)\, Asheboro (Attorney General)\, and Statesville (Treasurer). We felt it was important to ensure that North Carolina’s smaller cities and towns were brought into the conversation about these races and their issues addressed. \nAs this is not an election year for statewide offices\, we’ve decided to choose a singular topic and host three debates\, again in our smaller communities. We will be focusing on three questions regarding NC’s public education system. \nTuesday\, October 24th \nOld Post Office Playhouse – Newton\, NC \nShould performance play more of a role in North Carolina teacher compensation?\nPanelists: \n\nMatt Ellinwood\, NC Justice Center\nTerry Stoops\, John Locke Foundation\nNC State Representative\, Craig Horn\nNC State Representative\, Susan Fisher\n\nAll debates begin at 7:00 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. \nREGISTRATION TO ATTEND

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the Continuing Education modules for this fall – “Fundraising and Political Campaigns” and “Conservative and Liberal Minds”. \nWe will be holding both fall Continuing Education modules on Saturday\, September 16th at the John Locke Foundation in Raleigh. You can attend both the morning and afternoon session\, or choose one. The cost to attend is $10.00 per session or $15.00 for both. Lunch will be provided after the morning session. \n“Fundraising and Political Campaigns” – Saturday\, September 16 from 8:30 am – 12 noon at the John Locke Foundation in Raleigh \nThis module is taught by Jackie Hughes of JTH Law Firm. Jackie managed her first congressional campaign in 2000 and then began working with the State Party of Georgia working on targeted Senate and House races. Since her return to North Carolina\, she has dedicated her time to helping others run for office and learning how to raise money.
